Alonso suffers ankle break
Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso broke his ankle in the game against Chelsea.
It has been confirmed that Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso broke his ankle in the Premiership game against Chelsea on Saturday.The Spanish star sustained the injury to his left ankle after a foul by Frank Lampard in the 27th minute.
Alonso tried to continue after picking up the problem, but was subsequently forced from the field.
Liverpool brought on Antonio Nunez to replace his compatriot who was rushed to hospital where the break was confirmed.
The news will be a huge blow to The Reds as Alonso has made a big impact since his £10.5 million summer move from Real Sociedad.
Although Liverpool have yet to reveal how long Alonso will spend out of action, the Spain international is likely to be sidelined for at least two months.
