Bosvelt eyes new deal
Paul Bosvelt admits that he is keen to stay at Manchester City next season.
Veteran Manchester City midfielder Paul Bosvelt faces an anxious month before he learns whether he is to be given a new contract.The 35-year-old Dutchman is in a rich vein of form of late and is hopeful of convincing Kevin Keegan he is worthy of an extended stay in Manchester.
Bosvelt admits that his advanced years may work against him but remains determined in his efforts to play another season in the top flight.
''I have told the club I would like to stay one more year," he said.
"They promised me an answer within the next month, so I am waiting to see what they want to do.
"The main concern is my age but I think I have proved I am fit enough.
''I haven't missed games through injury and my performances have been okay, so hopefully I will get the opportunity to stay on."
Meanwhile, Keegan admits that the player initially struggled to adapt to the pace of The Premiership but that now, the former Holland international was impressing with his infectious enthusiasm.
"When Paul first came here, it looked like The Premiership might be a little quick for him," said Keegan.
"But he has so much experience and it was incredible to see him go into the gym with the attitude of getting himself fitter.
"He realised the pace of the game was much faster than anything he was used to but he drove himself back into the team and drove himself forward to become a key player.
"He is an unsung hero because he is never going to drop his shoulder and go past people.
''But he does all those nasty, niggly little bits of tidying up that some players don't know how to do."
