Figo: Cristiano is best

Luis Figo believes that Cristiano Ronaldo could become the World's best player.

Real Madrid star Luis Figo believes that his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo has the potential to become the world's greatest player.

The 20-year-old is currently learning his trade under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, and has made great strides since joining the English giants.

Whilst early impressions suggested a magnificently gifted entertainer, Ronaldo has since evolved an incisive cutting edge and is developing into a key player at Old Trafford.

He has contributed with seven goals already this term, and has proved an astute purchase from Sporting Lisbon.

Ronaldo made a huge impact at Euro 2004 alongside his legendary team mate, and Figo has now speculated that the winger could be better than anyone else in world football, even Chelsea's own wonder kid.

"Cristiano Ronaldo, together with Arjen Robben, are two of the most promising players around," Figo stated.

"I know Ronaldo well from having played alongside him for the national team, as he is Portuguese I put him above everyone else.

"He has sufficient qualities to turn out to be the number one player in the world.

"He is barely 20 years old yet he could turn out to be better than I have ever seen."

The two could face each other in the UEFA Champions League this season, although have tricky ties against Italian sides Juventus and Milan to negotiate first.
