Van Persie was warned: Wenger
Arsene Wenger was unhappy with sent-off forward Robin van Persie.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was critical of Robin van Persie after the Dutchman was sent off in the 1-1 draw at Southampton.Van Persie became the 58th player sent off under Wenger - but the first in The Premiership this season - for two bookings, despite a half time warning from his manager.
And Wenger felt that a depleted Gunners team deserved a victory at St Mary's.
He said: "I told van Persie at half time after he had been booked that the referee would be under pressure having sent off a home player to square up matters and that he was an obvious target.
"I cannot support van Persie in this but I feel we had the minimum reward for a good performance today. It is disappointing but we have to fight on."
