Sheffield Wednesday's veteran midfielder Chris Marsden has been forced to retire.
Sheffield Wednesday's veteran midfielder Chris Marsden has been forced to retire due to a hamstring injury.Marsden has been hampered by the problem since October, when he made the last of his 18 appearances for The Owls.
The 36-year-old has undergone an operation on his hamstring, but was informed he would need six months of rehabilitation.
There was also no guarantee that he would also make a full recovery and Marsden has made the agonising decision to quit playing.
"I feel devastated that I've had to make this decision, but I'm not 21 anymore and the only other option was to sit at the club getting paid," Marsden told the club's official website.
"I didn't want that to happen, especially as a Sheffield lad."
Marsden moved to Hillsborough last summer after spending time in South Korea with Busan Icons.
The midfielder's career started with The Owls' city rivals Sheffield United and Marsden made over 500 appearances during his time as a professional footballer.
