MacLean woe for Owls

Sheff Wed's top scorer Steven MacLean has been ruled out for at least three weeks.

Sheffield Wednesday's play-off hopes have suffered a blow after top scorer Steven MacLean was ruled out for at least three weeks.

MacLean was injured during The Owls' 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers on Sunday and he was forced out of the game during the second half.

An X-ray has subsequently shown that the 22-year-old has picked up a stress fracture of his foot and will require a minimum of three weeks on the sidelines.

The former Rangers hit-man is due to undergo another scan on the problem, with Owls boss Paul Sturrock anxious for the injury to not be more serious.

"We're very hopeful it's not as serious as it could be, but the next scan will determine how long it will be," Sturrock told the club's official website.

"We have to keep our fingers crossed, but he will definitely miss two to three weeks."

MacLean's goals have played a vital role in helping The Owls into third spot in League One and Sturrock admits he is looking to bring in a replacement to fill the striker's boots.

He added: "We were going to bring somebody in even if Steven was fit, but now we might need two.

"We've got to get somebody in very quickly."
