Drogba issues Frisk apology

Didier Drogba has apologised to referee Anders Frisk for receiving death threats.

Didier Drogba has apologised to referee Anders Frisk for the death threats he received from Chelsea supporters.

The Ivory Coast international made the apology following the Swedish referee's decision to quit top-level officiating this week.

Frisk received death threats from Blues fans after controversially sending off the former Le Mans, Guingamp and Marseille hit-man in the UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Chelsea lost that first leg match 2-1 before winning the second leg 4-2 at Stamford Bridge to take the tie 5-4 on aggregate.

Despite Frisk's decision to quit, the 27-year-old hopes the Scandinavian considers a return to top-level officiating.

"I would like to apologise to Mr Frisk if I might have, in any way, prompted him to end his refereeing career," Drogba told French television channel TF1.

"I really hope he will change his mind. Football needs great referees and Mr Frisk is one of them.

"Everyone makes mistakes and referees are human, we have to accept that."
