Barca close on Van deal
Barcelona have reportedly agreed a deal with PSV captain Mark van Bommel.
Barcelona have emerged as firm favourites to sign Mark van Bommel, with the talented midfielder reportedly already putting pen-to-paper for the Spanish giants.The Dutch international is available on a free transfer from PSV Eindhoven, and is expected to make the move to Camp Nou on a three-year deal in the summer.
Catalan press reports claim Barca director of sport Txiki Beguiristain tied up a pre-contract agreement with the 28-year-old whilst on a recent trip to Denmark, leaving Italian giants Milan frustrated in their attempts to snare the PSV skipper.
Van Bommel was on the brink of agreeing to join Real Madrid in December before Jose Antonio Camacho was fired, and it now looks as if he will link up with fellow countryman Frank Rijkaard at Los Cules.
With their UEFA Champions League campaign in full swing, PSV are thought to be reluctant to confirm that their talisman has agreed a deal, although it has long been known that the Dutch international would develop his career away from the Philips Stadion come June.
Barca, currently heading La Liga, have consistently been reluctant to confirm that any prospective deal with the player has been hammered out although it now appears if they have beaten a host of clubs to securing the signature of the in-demand midfielder.
This latest development has also put paid to any lingering hopes that Tottenham held of signing van Bommel, with fellow Dutchman Martin Jol a big admirer of the player's talents.
