Steve Bruce insists Mario Melchiot is committed to Birmingham and will not be leaving the club in the summer.The Dutch full back has enjoyed an impressive first campaign at St Andrews following his free transfer switch from Chelsea last close-season.
His form has seen him earn a recall to the Dutch national set-up and he has been a virtual ever-present for Bruce's men.
However, Blues have failed to make the progress many expected after a summer of heavy investment last time around leading some to question whether they could match the ambition of Melchiot.
Bruce is adamant, though, that the former Ajax star is content in the Midlands and is ready to stay and help the club push on next term.
"Mario knows we're striving to achieve something here, we're progressing and he's happy to be part of it," he declared.
"I think he realises that had we stayed injury-free we might have been a surprise package this season.
"I don't think anyone could doubt Mario's application or appetite."
