Bowditch axed by U's

Ben Bowditch has been released from Colchester United after an injury hit season.

Young midfielder Ben Bowditch has been released from Colchester United after an injury hit season.

The former Spurs man will not see his contract renewed after making just seven substitute appearances at Layer Road since joining in the summer.

Bowditch has struggled with his fitness during the League One season to date, and manager Phil Parkinson has decided not to retain his services for next year's campaign.

The U's boss explained his reasoning behind the decision, insisting that the player would not be likely to receive the first team football he desires at Layer Road.

"Ben is injured at the moment but we feel that we have plenty of cover in that part of the squad and he needs to be playing first team football once he is back to full-time fitness," Parkinson told the club's official website.
