Clare to rejoin Hatters

Rob Clare has agreed to return to Stockport following his release by Blackpool.

Rob Clare has agreed to return to Stockport County following his release by Blackpool.

The defender only quit Edgeley Park for Blackpool last summer but he was surprisingly offloaded by Colin Hendry.

He had been captain at Bloomfield Road earlier in the season but made only one appearance in the closing three months of the campaign.

Clare has been training with the relegated Hatters in recent weeks and has now concurred on a deal with his first club.

The 22-year-old is due to sign the contract later this week when he passes a medical and Stockport boss Chris Turner was happy to bring Clare back to Edgeley Park.

"We've monitored Rob's performances at Blackpool and we've also had the benefit of looking at him close hand whilst he trained with us for a couple of weeks," Turner told the club's official website.

"I know he has got a great reputation with the fans and I'm delighted that he's returned to County."

During his first spell with Stockport, Clare made over 120 appearances and his ability to play across the back four will be a vital tool for Turner as the club chase promotion from League Two.
