Samuel Eto'o has been handed a é¼12,000 fine by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after insulting Real Madrid during Barcelona's title celebrations. In front of a crowd of more than 100,000 spectators at the Camp Nou, Eto'o started a derogatory chant about Madrid which has clearly not impressed the RFEF.
The Federation's Competition's Committee concluded that the talented 24-year-old's comments were: ''Very serious and could be seen as an incitement to violence.''
Eto'o is a former Real Madrid player and immediately after the incident, called a press conference to explain that exuberance had played its part and that he regretted his actions completely.
''I never wanted to show any lack of respect to anyone,'' said Eto'o.
''What happened was that in a moment of joy I started to sing and that was all.
''I beg forgiveness and hope that people will understand me.''
