Werder track Monsoreau

Werder Bremen are reportedly closing in on Sylvain Monsoreau.

Werder Bremen are reportedly closing in on Sochaux youngster Sylvain Monsoreau as they are desperately searching for a successor for French defender Valerien Ismael.

Bayern Munich are known admirers of former Crystal Palace defender Ismael.

Champions Bayern have made Ismael their prime transfer target for the summer and are reportedly ready to splash out ‚é¼10 million for the sturdy defender, an offer that could prove to be too good to resist for Bremen.

But Bremen are hesitant to finalise the sale of Ismael without having a proper successor lined up and sent director of sport Klaus Allofs on a scouting mission to France.

Allofs watched Monsoreau during Sochaux's game at Ajaccio last weekend and despite their 3-1 defeat, the 24-year-old must have left a good impression.

The former France youth international is tied to Sochaux until 2007, and is rated in the ‚é¼4 million class.
