Van Persie to remain in custody

Dutch authorities will hold Arsenal's Robin van Persie in custody for a further 14 days.

Dutch authorities have decided to hold Arsenal's Robin van Persie, who is in custody on suspicion of rape, for a further 14 days.

The Dutch international was arrested on Monday following an alleged incident at a Rotterdam nightclub last weekend.

The Gunners star was back in his homeland after representing his country in their World Cup qualifiers against Romania and Finland.

It has been reported that a judge opted to extend the detention period of the player after a request by the Rotterdam public prosecutor.

Court officials have yet to publicly ratify the news, but the ANP news agency claim van Persie's agent Abraham Moszkowicz has confirmed the decision.

It is bad news for the 21-year-old who moved to Highbury from Feyenoord last summer for around £3 million.
