Posh Gain new signing
Peterborough United have agreed a deal to sign Lincoln midfielder Peter Gain.
Peterborough United have agreed a deal to sign Peter Gain, despite previous fears they would miss out on the Lincoln City midfielder.Posh manager Mark Wright had made the 28-year-old his prime transfer target as the club bid to make a quick return to League One.
Gain was out of contract at Sincil Bank and was offered a deal to stay at The Red Imps, while Boston United had joined Peterborough in handing the wide man the prospect of a new challenge.
London Road supremo Barry Fry had stated that Gain was going to Boston, after claiming The Pilgrims were offering three times the amount Posh would pay in wages.
But Lincoln boss Keith Alexander further muddied the waters when he revealed that the ex-Tottenham trainee had concurred on a three-year contract to stay at Sincil Bank.
Alexander, though, added that Gain was stalling on signing that deal after acknowledging Peterborough's interest in the player.
Fry has now confirmed that Posh's drawn-out pursuit of Gain has borne fruit, with the midfielder due to ink a three-year contract at London Road.
"Peter was the first player that Mark Wright identified when he came into the club and we are delighted to sign such a good player," Fry told the club's official website.
"He is widely respected and is arguably the best left-sided player in League Two.
"We have been after him for a long time and I am delighted that he has agreed to sign a three-year deal which will be completed later today."
