Tommy Miller is hoping his elevation to Premiership status with Sunderland will boost his hopes of earning a Scotland recall.

The goalscoring midfielder finally put pen-to-paper with the promoted Black Cats on Wednesday after returning from his honeymoon.

Sunderland beat off competition from a number of clubs to land the North East native when his contract at Ipswich Town expired.

"It's a young squad I've joined now and I am looking forward to it," Miller told Sky Sports News. "It's going to be a big season and hopefully one we can enjoy.

"The teams that go up from The Championship know it's going to be hard but Mick [McCarthy]'s made some good signings and, together with the lads who did ever so well last year, we can have a good season and hopefully be successful."

An international call from Scotland would be the icing on the cake for Miller.

"I can't wait for the call," he admitted.

"If I'm playing well, we'll see where it takes us.

"If I get called up, well, hopefully it will happen."
