Gronk hits out at Atletico
Jesper Gronkjaer has accused Atletico Madrid of breaking promises.
Jesper Gronkjaer has accused Atletico Madrid of breaking promises after completing his move to Stuttgart. The Denmark international spent just six months with Atletico, after ending a similarly turbulent spell at Birmingham City during the winter.
Stuttgart agreed an undisclosed fee with Atletico, while Gronkjaer has signed a three-year contract with the German outfit.
He joins compatriot Jon Dahl Tomasson as a new recruit for Stuttgart and acknowledges his international colleague's presence at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion played a factor in his decision to link up with Giovanni Trapattoni's men.
Gronkjaer, though, claims his move to Stuttgart came amidst a backdrop of failed promises from Atletico.
"There were some conditions which made me desire to move," Gronkjaer told Onside.dk.
"Atletico did not fulfil some of the promises stipulated in my contract.
"But when Stuttgart came into the picture, it was, of course, interesting, not just because Jon plays here but also because it is an exciting club with a good coach."
The winger endured an inauspicious start to his career with Stuttgart as he made his debut in Sunday's friendly defeat to Young Boys Berne.
