Groin woe for Sturridge

Queens Park Rangers striker Dean Sturridge has been sidelined by a groin injury.

The former Derby County and Leicester City hit-man faces three weeks out of Ian Holloway's line-up after being a second half substitute in the club's opening day draw at Hull City.

The free transfer summer signing from Championship rivals Wolves will be replaced by Danish striker Marc Nygaard for QPR's home opener against Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, Hull chairman Adam Pearson has expressed his disgust at sections of his own supporters for chants directed at QPR fans on Saturday.

An alleged group of Hull youths in the North East corner of The Kingston Communications Stadium taunted their opposite counterparts with chants relating to the recent London bombings.

The incident has embarrassed the Humberside club, with Pearson having issued a statement of apology to QPR and their supporters.

"On behalf of the club, I would like to unreservedly apologise to all Queens Park Rangers supporters who were subjected to this unbelievably ignorant and distressing chant," Pearson said in a statement on the club's official website.

"The group of youths who were involved with this chant will be identified and will be dealt with in the most swingeing manner possible.

"Hull City Football Club accepts full responsibility to sort this social behaviour problem out within this particular group of youths and once again apologises unreservedly for any distress caused to the travelling supporters of QPR."
