United capture Canero

Dundee United have snapped up former Kilmarnock defender Peter Canero.

Dundee United have snapped up former Kilmarnock defender Peter Canero.

Canero has been looking for a new club after being released by Leicester earlier in the summer.

The 24-year-old struggled to establish himself at Leicester with a series of injuries blighting his progress and the club decided to cancel his contract.

United chief Gordon Chisholm was delighted to land Canero on a four-month deal with the option to extend his contract.

"Peter can play in defence or attack and provides us with another option going wide," Chisholm told the club's official website.

"His credentials are not in doubt, having being capped by his country, and the nature of the deal allows us time to assess the way ahead.

"There's no doubt that, if things work out, Peter would be yet another quality addition to the squad."
