Nobby: Al crucial in my return
Nolberto Solano claims Alan Shearer played a key role in his transfer to Newcastle.
Like Michael Owen, Nolberto Solano has praised Alan Shearer for the part he played in his transfer to Newcastle. The Peruvian wide man returned to St James' Park on Wednesday after an 18-month stay with Aston Villa.
The 30-year-old turned down the chance to join Liverpool in order to clinch a switch to Tyneside and has now revealed that Shearer had a key role in setting the deal up.
"My great friend Alan was involved in the transfer," the South American declared.
"He influenced matters and this would not have been possible without him.
"I'm emotional about my return.
"I didn't know Graeme Souness but I spoke to him about the transfer after Alan opened the communication lines.
"Alan put in the work for me to be able to come back.
"I'm very happy to be back at Newcastle."
Solano should make his Newcastle debut in The Magpies' league clash with Manchester City on September 24 as he is still suspended for two games following his sending-off for Villa against Portsmouth.
