Wolves raid Owls for Ross

Wolves have completed the loan signing of Sheffield Wednesday's Maurice Ross.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the loan signing of Sheffield Wednesday defender Maurice Ross.

The former Rangers youngster was keen to leave Hillsborough after failing to break into the first team reckoning on a regular basis, making just two appearances so far this season due to the impressive form of Frankie Simek.

After impressing Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle during a trial period at Molineux, including a behind the scenes friendly on Tuesday, Ross has now sealed a three-month loan with an option for a permanent move.

Hoddle, who also completed a loan deal for Tottenham starlet Tom Huddlestone on Tuesday, revealed he had been watching the 24-year-old for a year and advanced his hopes that Ross could prove an adequate replacement for crocked star Jackie McNamara.

"We looked at Maurice during the summer and our scouts have been monitoring him for 12 months, so we know quite a lot about him," said Hoddle.

"When we heard he was available we invited him to come and train with us and, with the injury to Jackie, the timing has been good.

"He's now got an extended opportunity to show us what he can do."

Wolves have paid an undisclosed fee for the privilege of taking Ross on loan from The Owls, whom he only joined in August.
