Bullard could play for Germany

Wigan star Jimmy Bullard could represent Germany at the World Cup.

Wigan star Jimmy Bullard could represent Germany at the World Cup.

The midfielder was born and bred in London, but, by virtue of having a German grandmother, he would be eligible to play for the World Cup hosts should Jurgen Klinsmann come calling.

Bullard has been instrumental in The Latics' fantastic start to The Premiership, and would be willing to compete for Germany despite confessing that he has never even been there.

"The closest I've got is Denmark, but I'm up for it," he told givemefootball.com. "Maybe Michael Ballack needs someone to do his running for him.

"We'll see what comes of it. Probably nothing but my agent wanted my gran's birth certificate anyway."

If Bullard does achieve his dream of playing international football it will have been a remarkable journey for the 27-year-old, who started his career at West Ham before joining Peterborough on a free transfer after failing to make an impression.
