Acimovic rues Spurs mistake

Milenko Acimovic has admitted he probably made a mistake when he signed for Tottenham.

The Slovenian international endured a frustrating two-year spell at White Hart Lane before moving to Lille.

The 28-year-old struggled to establish himself at Spurs and he was sent on loan to Lille before he made the move permanent in 2004.

Acimovic believes he maybe moved to England too soon in his career.

"Maybe I made a mistake by signing so early in England," Acimovic told L'Equipe.

"Perhaps I should have come to France before to learn."

Acimovic's performances this season have seen him linked with Benfica, but the midfield schemer insists he is happy to stay at Lille.

"Honestly I am fine at Lille, I never had any desire to leave the club and the town, where my family and I feel at ease," added Acimovic.

"I have matured, I am much calmer and I don't cry when it doesn't go the right way or when I lose."
