Lazio's veteran striker Paolo Di Canio has been banned and fined.

Lazio's veteran striker Paolo Di Canio has been banned and fined for making a fascist salute against Livorno earlier this month.

The fiery Italian was called before an Italian Football League disciplinary committee announced on Monday and fined ‚é¼10,000 and given a one-game ban.

Politicians, players, fans and Jewish groups in Italy all attacked Di Canio's actions, while Fifa president Sepp Blatter has stated players making fascist salutes could face life bans.

Di Canio will now miss Lazio's trip to Lecce on Wednesday for their Serie A clash at Stadio Via Del Mare.

The former Charlton and West Ham striker, who repeated the gesture recently against Roma, previously defending his actions saying: "It's a perfectly normal salute.

"There's nothing shocking or controversial here."
