Kev: I'll never be 100%
Aston Villa's Kevin Phillips has conceded he is unlikely to be 100 percent fit again.
Aston Villa striker Kevin Phillips has conceded he is unlikely to be 100 percent fit again in his career. The former Southampton and Sunderland hit-man has recovered from his latest ankle injury and is now hoping to make his return against Port Vale in the FA Cup.
Phillips has conceded the knock is no longer improving, but providing he can strengthen his ankle then he is positive he can remain away from the treatment room.
"I can't do any more. I've worked hard in training and I've played two games now," Phillips told the club's official website.
"The only way to get more match fit now is to get back involved in the first team. Hopefully that will be the case this weekend.
"There were stages when the ankle wasn't getting better and it's one of those where you wonder when is it going to get better?
"It's still not 100 percent and it's one of those I'm going to have to manage from now until the time I retire.
"It's one of those things that's going to aggravate me every now and then. But if I can keep working on it and keep making it stronger, then hopefully I'll have no problems."
