Swedes sign Griffit

Swedish outfit Elfsborg have swooped to sign Southampton's Leandre Griffit.

Swedish outfit Elfsborg have swooped to sign Southampton outcast Leandre Griffit.

The French midfielder has failed to make any sort of impact at St Mary's and informed manager George Burley that he would like to head for pastures new.

Saints had no qualms about letting the 21-year-old leave and Elfsborg came in with an offer this week.

Griffit wasted little time in thrashing out a deal and is keen to kick-start his career after penning a contract with the Swedes.

Elfsborg coach Magnus Haglund has expressed delight at landing a player of such potential.

"To sign a player who has scored in the Premier League feels very interesting," Haglund told the club's official website.

"We have been to England and seen him in a number of matches and met him personally."

Griffit will replace striker Hasse Bergren who joined BK Hacken.
