Zaragoza fined for Eto'o abuse

Real Zaragoza have been fined for the racial abuse suffered by Samuel Eto'o.

Real Zaragoza have been fined ‚é¼9,000 (£6,175) for the racial abuse suffered by Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o at the weekend.

Eto'o threatened to walk off after coming under fire from home supporters at Estadio La Romareda only for Ronaldinho and co to change his mind.

However, the Spanish Football Federation has taken a dim view of Zaragoza's so-called supporters' actions and fined the club.

Zaragoza themselves are unhappy with their fans' behaviour and have called in the police to help track down the guilty parties.

"We are calling for all the authorities, including the police, to help us track down the people who carried out these acts," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Those identified will be firmly punished and the results of the investigation will be sent to the authorities."

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has condemned Zaragoza's meagre punishment and believes it is time to adopt a tougher stance on racist behaviour.

"In my opinion, the disciplinary decision they have taken is ridiculous," blasted Blatter.

"It pains me to see yet another incident of racist behaviour...To be frank, it is time to get tough."
