Wise claims monthly honour
Coventry City's Dennis Wise is The Championship's Player of the Month.
Coventry City veteran Dennis Wise has been named The Championship's Powerade Player of the Month for February. The former England international has been a revelation since joining Micky Adams's side on a pay-as-you-play deal back in January.
The 39-year-old scored three goals in five games for The Sky Blues, as Coventry recorded home wins over Brighton & Hove Albion, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley last month.
In receiving his award, Wise lamented the loss of former Chelsea team-mate Gianfranco Zola to the English game.
The midfield battler believes the mercurial Italian could still be dazzling crowds in England, had he decided not to hang up his boots.
"If you look after yourself in the right way, it's possible to play for a long time," Wise said.
"When you look at people like Gianfranco Zola and Gus Poyet, these are people I think could have played on a lot longer because they looked after themselves so well.
"When you meet Zola, he's still chiseled and fit and I wish he'd played on for a long, long time but that was down to him."
Huddersfield Town captain Jonathan Worthington took the League One honour for February after helping The Terriers to three league wins in five matches during the month.
The 22-year-old's efforts have boosted Huddersfield's promotion hopes in a very tight division this season.
Mansfield Town striker Richie Barker won the League Two award for his four goals in five matches for The Stags.
Barker's goals have helped the Nottinghamshire-based outfit pull away from the foot of the table.
