Henry reveals goal gamble
Thierry Henry says he took 'a gamble' when latching onto Steven Gerrard's backpass.
Thierry Henry has admitted he took 'a gamble' when latching onto Steven Gerrard's misplaced backpass which allowed Arsenal to claim a 2-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday.Liverpool appeared on the brink of securing a point at Highbury on Sunday when Gerrard played a blind pass towards his keeper Jose Reina which only found Henry and he gleefully accepted the present to net the winner.
Gerrard has accepted the blame for his mistake, but Henry feels the England star was unfortunate.
"I just saw that he (Gerrard) didn't unfortunately notice I was waiting and I gambled," Henry told Sky Sports News.
"I do it every game but it's only the second time in my career it's worked for me (the first was also a Gerrard backpass at Euro 2004)."
Henry scored earlier in the match, but was also guilty of squandering a couple of openings and he was determined to set the record straight.
"After missing a chance I said to myself I'm going to have to do something before I leave the pitch," he added. "Overall, no disrespect to Liverpool, I think we did deserve to win."
