Corinthians deny Tevez talk

Corinthians have played down reports linking Carlos Tevez with a move away.

Corinthians president Kia Joorabchian has played down reports linking Argentinian star Carlos Tevez with a move away from the club.

Tevez has been quoted as saying he will leave Corinthians for a European side after the World Cup in Germany this summer.

Chelsea and Internazionale have both been linked with a move for Tevez but Joorabchian insists his star player will not be leaving in the foreseeable future.

"I can offer Tevez a new contract to make him stay," said Joorabchian.

"I know that we are going to receive many proposals for Tevez but we don't have any interest in negotiating.

"I am sure one day he will leave Corinthians but that will be at least four or five years, not at this moment when we are in the middle of a project."

Joorabchian believes the comments made by Tevez in the press are untrue after being assured by the attacker that he is happy at the South American side.

Tevez has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave should a club offer at least ‚é¼120 million (£80 million) but the club's president is adamant the 22-year-old would still not leave.

"I even doubt what has been published," he continued.

"I don't think that he would say he would like to leave Corinthians after the World Cup because I speak with him frequently and he didn't tell me anything about that.

"Anyway, if a team wants him they will have to pay ‚é¼120 million to initiate a clause in his contract.

"But even if a team comes and offers that I doubt Tevez would leave.

"He has said to me many times that he likes Corinthians and that he is happy here with us."
