Jones waits on appeal

Grimsby striker Gary Jones is hoping his red card against Lincoln is recinded.

Grimsby striker Gary Jones is hoping his red card against Lincoln is rescinded to allow him to play in the League Two play-off final.

Jones scored a late winner for The Mariners before being dismissed for violent conduct after catching Gareth McAuley with his elbow.

The club have appealed the red card and if successful, the 17-goal hitman would be available for the play-off final against either Wycombe or Cheltenham at the Millennium Stadium.

Jones is now praying that he will get the chance to fire Grimsby into League One on May 28.

"I played at Wembley for Tranmere in the League Cup final against Leicester in 2000 and this would be the next biggest game since that," he said.

"I've enjoyed the season and I've got my fair share of goals and going to the Millennium Stadium will be a great day out for the fans.

"Hopefully we can get promotion and I can play a part if the red card gets overturned."
