Foster handed England call

Ben Foster has been called up as stand-by for England's World Cup squad.

Skysports.com understand that Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has been called up as stand-by for England's World Cup squad.

The 23-year-old is being rushed back from an end of season holiday to join up with Sven Goran Eriksson's squad.

Foster has been called upon after Robert Green's injury on Thursday evening against Belarus.

The Norwich man damaged his groin and that now means Scott Carson has stepped into his shoes as number three.

Now Foster has been drafted in as cover for Carson, along with David James and Paul Robinson.

The call-up ends a wonderful season for Foster - who has just helped Watford claim a place in The Premiership through the play-offs.

Foster joined Watford on loan from Manchester United, who only signed him from Stoke last summer, and he played a major role in The Hornets' promotion.
