Lehmann sweats on ankle injury

Jens Lehmann picked up an ankle injury during Germany's 4-2 win over Costa Rica.

Jens Lehmann could lose his place as Germany's number one goalkeeper after picking up an ankle injury in the hosts' 4-2 opening day win over Costa Rica.

Having edged out Bayern Munich rival Oliver Kahn to claim a starting spot, Lehmann endured a mixed day against the Costa Ricans with the win being tempered by the fact he was twice beaten by Paulo Wanchope.

However, of even greater concern to the Arsenal custodian will be the injury he picked up in the first half that required his ankle to be heavily strapped up at the interval.

Although he is currently unsure about the gravity of the knock, he is now a doubt for the Germans' next group game against Poland on Wednesday.

"I twisted my ankle and I am in pain," said Lehmann. "I don´t know how bad it is. We will see."

However, the 36-year-old was cheered by his reception from fans at Bayern's Allianz Arena - the backyard of rival Kahn.

"Even the supposedly bad Munich fans treated me well," he continued.

"I think it was a very entertaining issue. I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

"We could have done better defensively but that is up for the coaches to analyse.

"It was a good start to the tournament."
