McBride speaks up for De Rossi

Brian McBride bears no malice towards Daniele De Rossi after being elbowed.

Brian McBride bears no malice towards Daniele De Rossi after being elbowed by the Italian at the weekend.

The veteran USA striker required stitches in a facial wound after being caught by De Rossi's elbow in the 1-1 draw on Saturday.

De Rossi was sent off for his indiscretion and has apologised for his actions, although he is still waiting to learn the length of his suspension.

McBride revealed De Rossi has apologised to him for the incident and the Fulham forward appears to hold the Roma midfielder in some esteem.

"He was classy and apologised right after the game," said McBride.

The powerful American also shrugged off the effects of De Rossi's challenge and admits previous injuries mean there was only superficial damage.

He added: "I'm fortunate that I don't have a lot of feeling in my face because the nerves are all dead from previous operations.

"I've had two lots of plastic surgery around my eyes.

"You get hit and you get back up. I've broken all the bones in my face, just from playing football."
