Baggies seal deal for Hartson

West Bromwich Albion have completed the transfer of Celtic striker John Hartson.

West Bromwich Albion have completed the transfer of Celtic striker John Hartson.

The former Welsh international has agreed a two-year contract at The Hawthorns to conclude manager Bryan Robson's long-running pursuit of the 31-year-old.

Albion had a £500,000 bid for the former Arsenal and West Ham striker accepted by The Hoops at the end of last month, after Robson identified Hartson as the player to spearhead his side's bid to regain promotion to The Premiership.

Hartson has now put pen-to-paper with the Black Country club and is relishing the prospect of a new challenge.

"I have had five fantastic years in Scotland and been lucky enough to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world," Hartson told stellargroup's website.

"But for a variety of reasons the time is now right for me to make a change and to return to English football.

"I spoke to Bryan Robson and was impressed with his plans for next season.

"Obviously he wants Premiership football back at The Hawthorns as soon as possible and that leaves me with another big challenge on my hands.

"I feel fit and healthy and cannot wait for the new season to start now. I am looking forward to a new adventure."
