Borussia Monchengladbach have completed the signing of David Degen.

Borussia Monchengladbach have completed the signing of David Degen from Basel.

The 23-year-old has left Basel for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of ‚é¼1.5 million and committed himself to the Borussia-Parc until 2009.

Degen was part of Switzerland's successful World Cup campaign, but unlike his twin brother Philipp Degen (Borussia Dortmund), he did not star for Kobi Kuhn's team this summer.

New Monchengladbach coach Jupp Heynckes has hailed the signing of Degen.

David has gained plenty of international experience while playing Champions League and Uefa Cup football for Basel and he is pacy and strong at the ball," Heynckes said.

"He is exactly what I expect from an offensive midfielder."

Degen is the fourth fresh face at Gladbach, as Heynckes has already signed Schalke reserve goalkeeper Christopher Heimeroth and Dane Sebastian Sward from Vitoria Guimares, while youngster Robert Flessner won promotion from the Monchengladbach's reserve team.
