Varga signs Celtic deal

Skysports.com can reveal Stanislav Varga has signed a new deal at Celtic.

The giant Slovakian defender has inked a new one-year deal to extend his stay at Parkhead.

Varga has been locked in talks with Celtic for some time over his future with his old contract expiring earlier this summer.

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has handed the former Sunderland man a 12-month deal as he prepares to try and defend the SPL title and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

The player's agent Tony McGill revealed Varga was happy to stay at the Glasgow giants.

"Stan has signed his new deal at Celtic," McGill told skysports.com.

"Stan is pleased to stay as he did not want to go anywhere else and he has signed a one-year deal.

"I think his performances at the end of last season persuaded Gordon Strachan to offer him a new contract.

"Stan is now just concentrating on fighting for his place in the side as he knows there is a lot of competition in defence."
