Boro boy joins Pools

Hartlepool United have clinched the signing of Middlesbrough midfielder Gary Liddle.

Hartlepool United have clinched their second signing after the lifting of a transfer embargo in the shape of Middlesbrough midfielder Gary Liddle.

The 20-year-old has concurred on a two-year deal with Danny Wilson's side and follows hot on the heels of Willie Boland by moving to Victoria Park.

Liddle has played for England and Republic of Ireland at youth level and proved to be a versatile option for the Boro youth ranks during his time at The Riverside.

Despite signing a new one-year deal with the Premiership side over the summer Liddle has now been released and will look to impress in League Two with his new side.

"We would like to wish Gary all the best," said Boro's academy manager Dave Parnaby.

"He's a thoroughly good professional and a credit to himself and his family.

"He was a member of the FA Youth Cup-winning squad back in 2004 but then missed a year out of the game with a back problem and he's shown great courage, determination and attitude.

"He deserves all the success which we sincerely hope comes his way."
