Valencia seal Joaquin deal

Valencia have officially completed the signing of Joaquin on a six-year contract.

Valencia have officially completed the ‚é¼25 million (£16 million) signing of Spanish international Joaquin.

The winger has agreed a six-year contract at the Mestalla and will be unveiled to fans on Monday evening after bidding a tearful farewell to Real Betis and their fans at a press conference.

The 25-year-old had made no secret of his desire to leave Betis this summer and has now got his wish, with Valencia's lengthy pursuit finally bearing fruit.

A deal with Betis was finalised on Monday with Valencia announcing the news on their website.

"Valencia have reached an agreement with Real Betis for the signing of international footballer Joaquin, who will play for the team for the next six years," the statement read.

The player had also been linked with the likes of Internazionale and Lyon, but had always intimated a desire to remain in Spain.

He becomes the most expensive signing in Valencia's history and brings to an end the club's search for a right winger which had also seen them bid for Benfica's Simao Sabrosa.

Reports suggest that Betis will move for Borussia Dortmund's German international David Odonkor as a replacement for Joaquin.
