Vieira slapped with ban

Internazionale midfielder Patrick Vieira has been banned for three games.

Internazionale midfielder Patrick Vieira has been slapped with a three-match ban following his second sending off of the season.

The former Arsenal midfielder has seen red twice in his first four games for The Nerazzurri, with his latest misdemeanour coming in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Roma.

At Stadio Olimpico, just as against Sporting in the UEFA Champions League, Vieira was given his marching orders after receiving two yellow cards.

Despite Inter's complaints that the second yellow card against Roma should not have been awarded when the French international collided with Vincenzo Montella, the Italian federation have come down hard on the star.

The judge considering the case meted out a three match ban after stating that Vieira insulted referee Nicola Rizzoli after being told to leave the field.

However, Inter could yet appeal as they aim to have their summer signing from Juventus back in action as soon as possible to aid their campaign to claim the Serie A title.
