Rodger and out

Grimsby Town have sacked manager Graham Rodger after a disastrous run of form.

Grimsby Town have sacked manager Graham Rodger after a disastrous run of form.

The Mariners have slipped to 22nd spot in League Two after going the last four league games without a win.

Saturday's defeat at home to Milton Keynes Dons was the last straw for the Grimsby board and they have decided to part company with Rodger.

Rodger only took charge at Blundell Park in June, but he has been unable to transform their fortunes and assistant boss Stuart Watkiss has been placed in temporary charge.

Grimsby paid tribute to Rodger, but bemoaned the side's injury problems for their poor form.

"He has been a loyal servant to the club, but has become a victim of circumstances," read a club statement.

"Unfortunately, injuries to Michael Reddy, Gary Cohen, Isaiah Rankin and recent signing Kevin James have made Graham's job especially difficult.

"Such is the pressure on this results-based industry that the board has arrived at one of its most difficult decision.

"Graham has qualities this club needs - the shame of it is that this man deserved better."

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the injured James faces three months on the sidelines with a dislocated shoulder.

The loan signing from Nottingham Forest sustained the injury against the MK Dons.
