Richie Baker has committed his future to Bury by signing a contract through to 2009.

The teenage midfielder joined the League Two club last summer after failing to make the breakthrough at Preston North End.

He has impressed at Gigg Lane, scoring five goals in 29 appearances in all competitions for Chris Casper's side.

Baker has now been rewarded with a new two-and-a-half year contract, with Bury's director of footballing affairs Ian Harrop feeling it is a positive move for the club.

"It is important players like Richie remain with us while they develop their career and also the profile of the club," Harrop told the club's official website.

"We are delighted that Richie has committed his immediate future to the club. This is a positive step for Bury Football Club."
