Reyna to join Red Bulls
Claudio Reyna is set to be announced as a New York Red Bulls player.
Claudio Reyna is set to be announced as a New York Red Bulls player on Wednesday, just 24 hours after leaving Manchester City. The former United States international saw his contract at Eastlands terminated by mutual consent earlier this week.
Reyna was understood to be looking to return home after 10 years plying his trade across Europe, including spells in Germany, Scotland and England.
The Red Bulls have scheduled a press conference for later on Wednesday to make a "major player announcement".
Reyna is widely thought to be the player involved, with the 33-year-old expected to be named one of the club's 'designated players'.
Under that system, Reyna will be allowed to be paid above Major League Soccer's maximum of $300,000 (£151,000) per year.
Reyna will link up once again with former US national team coach Bruce Arena, who is now in charge of the Red Bulls.
Meanwhile, another former City player, Ronald Waterreus, could soon be joining Reyna in New York.
The Dutch goalkeeper is negotiating his release from AZ Alkmaar and is expected to move to the Red Bulls in the next two weeks.
