Gillespie explains red mist

Keith Gillespie has hit out at Stephen Hunt's reaction to his recent dismissal.

Sheffield United's Keith Gillespie has stated Stephen Hunt's reaction to his dismissal is the reason why he is facing an additional three-game ban.

The former Blackburn and Newcastle winger was shown red within a minute of coming on as a substitute in The Blades' recent defeat at Reading.

However, with Hunt apparently pleased at Gillespie being dismissed, the experienced Northern Ireland man took exception to his glee at a job done.

Gillespie had a second go at Hunt and is facing a further ban after admitting the FA's charge of violent conduct, although he is hoping to avoid an additional suspension.

"For the sending-off, it was a case of catching him with an outstretched arm, rather than banging him in the face with an elbow," he stated.

"I was very unhappy with his reaction. He thought about staying on his feet, then went down in slow motion and that hardly helped my case.

"What happened after that really brought the red mist down. I saw him smiling and laughing at me getting a red card, and I was so angry I pushed him in the face.

"I know I shouldn't have, and the manager Neil Warnock let me know about it. I apologised and it was soon forgotten.

"I might miss another three games. I will be bitterly disappointed if it goes against me."
