Messi full of praise for Ronaldo

Lionel Messi would relish the chance to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi has admitted he would relish the chance to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo if Barcelona are successful in their quest to sign him.

The Spanish giants have been strongly linked to the Manchester United star in recent weeks, with Messi the latest Barca player to confirm a desire to play alongside Ronaldo.

If a move to Camp Nou was to materialise for Ronaldo, Messi would be delighted as he is a big fan of the Portuguese winger.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is an extraordinary player and it would be brilliant to be in the same team as him," Messi explained in an interview with Record magazine.

"I do not know if that will happen one day, but I would like it to as he is spectacular."

While Messi is still trying to make his name in European football, he already has his sights firmly set on becoming a hero in his native Argentina.

Despite not being a regular in Frank Rijkaard's side, the 19-year-old is already a very popular figure for his performances in the national team.

His potential has won him plaudits from Diego Maradona, who has become a close friend.

"One day I would like to be adored by the people in Argentina like Maradona is," Messi said.

Meanwhile, when asked about his opinion of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Messi replied: "I cannot say many good things about him."

Messi and Mourinho clashed two seasons ago when the Barca starlet was accused of diving.
