Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to win the FA Cup this season so he can 'wipe away some of the bad memories'.
The England international has yet to win the famous competition and has outlined his desire to get his hands on the trophy.
He was suspended for United's 2004 final win over Millwall, after his missed drugs test, and then saw Arsenal prevail on penalties a year later.
The Red Devils meet Reading in a fifth round replay on Tuesday night and Ferdinand is desperate to advance in the tournament.
"The FA Cup is massive for me," Ferdinand told MUTV. "I would very much like to get my hands on it.
"I have never won it. I missed the Millwall game because I was banned and, obviously, then we got beaten by Arsenal, which will go down as one of the most disappointing days in my career so far.
"Winning it this year would wipe away some of the bad memories, so fingers crossed it will happen."
The intention to stage this season's FA Cup final at Wembley has also given Ferdinand added motivation to appear in the showpiece.
He added: "The opportunity to play at Wembley is a great incentive.
"I grew up watching matches there, so it would be great to be one of the first players to go there and win."
