Irish eyes on Folan
Steve Staunton is mulling over the possibility of handing Caleb Folan a call-up.
Republic of Ireland chief Steve Staunton is mulling over the possibility of handing Wigan striker Caleb Folan an international call-up.Folan has impressed since joining Wigan from Chesterfield during the January transfer window and it would appear as if Staunton is an admirer.
Latics chief Paul Jewell has revealed that he has fielded an enquiry from Staunton with regard to Folan's eligibility.
"Steve rang me on Monday and there seems to be a bit of interest in Caleb," Jewell told the Wigan Evening Post. "He has been doing well in the short time he has been with us, and has grasped the nettle with what we want him to do.
"Of course he has a lot to learn, but he is willing to do that. And the two goals he has scored so far have earned us four points.
"Those points could be worth a lot to us."
The Irish face Wales and Slovakia in Euro 2008 qualifying this month.
