Westermann set for Schalke

Schalke have agreed personal terms with Arminia Bielefeld's Heiko Westermann.

Bundesliga leaders Schalke have agreed personal terms with Arminia Bielefeld defender Heiko Westermann.

The 23-year-old stopper looks certain to leave the Schuco Arena at the end of the season and Schalke general manager Andreas Muller says he wants to join the Royal Blues.

"He has decided to continue his career with us," he confirmed on Thursday after agreeing a four-year deal with the player.

"All we have to do now is agree terms with Bielefeld."

Westermann is contracted at Arminia until June 2008 and is expected to command a fee of around ‚é¼2million (£1.35million) for a summer move.

Muller also confirmed that he was hoping to sign Eintracht Frankfurt captain Jermaine Jones at the end of the season.

"We are very interested in him, but nothing has been signed as yet," he said.
