Ogasawara set for Messina exit

Japanese midfielder Mitsuo Ogasawara is set to leave Messina.

Japanese midfielder Mitsuo Ogasawara is set to leave Messina, according to his agent.

The 27-year-old joined the Serie A strugglers on loan from Kashima Antlers last summer but has failed to establish himself at the club.

His lack of regular top-flight action has seen him frozen out of the Japan national team, he has not made an appearance since the 2006 World Cup.

Ogasawara's agent Oberto Petricca said that the player will leave Messina at the end of the season and possibly look for another club in Italy.

"I want to make clear that my client has never had any problems either with the Messina management or fans," Petricca told Tutto Mercato.

"Unfortunately this season he hasn't been given the chance to express his ability or strengthen his place in the Japan team.

"Ogasawara's contract expires in June and I'm sure we will receive many, many offers. However, the preference is to stay in Italy."
