Benjani eyes Euro finish
Benjamin Mwaruwari believes Portsmouth need three more wins to guarantee Europe.
Portsmouth striker Benjamin Mwaruwari believes the South Coast side will snatch a place in Europe with three more wins.Pompey currently occupy seventh spot in the Premier League which will be enough for a Uefa Cup place now that Manchester United and Chelsea are contesting the FA Cup final.
However, Tottenham are currently level on 49 points having played a game less, with Reading also just one point behind Harry Redknapp's outfit.
After picking up their form following a slump in the early part of 2007, Benjani - who scored in Saturday's win over Newcastle - is convinced that Pompey can hold onto seventh place if they finish the season strongly.
"I know the fans appreciate what I do working for the other players, but it was nice to get on the scoresheet again," said Benjani in the Daily Star.
"We still have a hope of Europe, if we win three of our last four games then I think we can do it."
Whilst Pompey chase a European finish, goalkeeper David James is hoping to claim a personal milestone by taking David Seaman's record for the most top flight clean sheets.
James is currently equal with the former Arsenal great on 141, but has not kept a clean sheet since 17th March and admits the record is becoming a source of frustration.
"The record is getting on my nerves simply because I have not broken it yet." James told the Daily Mirror.
"It is always going to be a selfish gain. It is a badge of honour but it is just hanging over me.
"I was growing my beard until we got a clean sheet but I've even shaved that off. It was a symbol of failure."
